Prom Season: How to Get Ready For Prom Night

It’s that time of year again.

High school juniors and seniors are preparing for the biggest night of the year…Prom. It’s a night to dine, dance and create everlasting memories with friends.

Besides a dress, the shoes, and all the accessories you need, what else do you need to know about prom? Here are  tips to help you enjoy your night!

Take Care of Yourself

  • HYDRATE. It’s a habit we should all have, drinking water regularly. Water helps your skin look its best. Dehydration makes your skin look more dry and wrinkled and this can be improved by simply adding water to your day everyday. It’s also important to stay hydrated on your special night, with all the dancing you will be doing.
  • BE ACTIVE. Looking your best is part of what makes prom a great night, and there’s no better way to prepare than to get some physical activity in for as little as 20 minutes a day. It can be anything: dancing, biking or yoga. Keep your body active.
  • EAT WELL. Nutrition plays an important part in looking and feeling great. What you put into your body will affect how you feel and how your body reacts. Make sure you add more fruits and vegetables to your diet.
  • SKIN CARE. On your big night, the last thing you want to worry about is a zit on your face. Make sure you take care of your skin. Exfoliate, wash and moisturize your face everyday. This will give you a fresh and bright face on your big night.
  • MANI/PEDI. Other than the face, your hands and feet are very important. As most prom nights are during spring, you can’t ignore your feet while wearing open toed shoes. You can scrub your feet with pumice stone in the mornings and follow up with shea butter for moisture. Shea butter can also be applied to your hands during the night and day for sift skin. You’ll be ready to go even before you manicure and pedicure appointment.

Other Preparation Guides

  • MAKEUP RUN-THROUGH. Make sure you know what look you are going for on your big night, but most importantly make sure you go through a run through either with your artist or yourself.  Some colors make not work for your skin tone or the color of your dress. You want to be sure it’s exactly the look you want. A run through will also help you estimate the amount of time you will need the day of.
  • HAIRSTYLE RUN-THROUGH. As with the makeup, ask your stylist if you can do a practice run of your style before your big day.  You can also determine what accessories would pair nicely with the style. It is better to find out that the up-do you intend to do is not right two weeks in advance than hours before your night.
  • DRESS FITTING. After you’ve picked your dress, make sure to do last minute fitting a week in advance. Adjustments can still be made then, but not the day off. Make sure the dress fits well and will be comfortable. You don’t want to keep adjusting your dress instead of enjoying prom.

The last and most important tip is to enjoy your prom night! Enter the prom with a positive, happy attitude, ready to enjoy the night and be with your friends and classmates. Remember to just have fun!
