Product Misuse : Moisturizing vs. Styling

Two of the biggest questions those with natural hair seem to have are: 1) “How do I keep my hair soft and moisturized?” and 2) “How can I style and retain a certain style for a period of time?”

There are many products on the market today that are targeted towards natural hair, that it can sometimes get confusing to know what is right for you. But the most important thing to be aware of, no matter what product line you use, is that there is a difference between a moisturizer and a styling cream. Most people believe they are one in the same, and end up feeling disappointed when they don’t get the results they expected.

You cannot style your hair,  and not followup with a moisturizer.  Using a product like  a curly pudding, curl definer  should suffice for styling your hair, but you have to moisturize your hair to maintain the curl definition and add moisture daily.

The primary purpose of styling products is NOT to improve the health of your hair. Just like the primary purpose of moisturizing products is NOT to sculpt and style your hair. There are some crossover products that can do both, but most will not.

Understanding what you put into your hair will make the difference. Make sure you use your styling products for what they are intended for, and find a great moisturizer to keep your hair hydrated and looking its best.
